Stripes A-Hoy!

Another trend that seems to follow us into every Spring/Summer 2011 cycle is stripes. While navy and white stripes are a must for the look (though black and white can also work in 2011), the real key to Summer's take on nautical stripes is that they dominate the outfit. This look is all about drawing attention to the stripes above all else in the outfit (and it totally works).

The center piece of this outfit is all about the striped dress. Pairing it with these casual boots gives it a more everyday, wearable look. Pair it up some some heels or some gladiator flats gives this classic look more of a nightlife feel.

We have touched on 70's glamour coming back this season. This spring summer is the return of the bell bottom jeans. A style which originated with the sailor pants of the US navy and helping create the military look from past seasons. Presents the perfect opportunity for creating nautical ensembles. A striped top with flares is a combination that brings the 70's look into 2011.

An inspirational look from Anja Rubik's sailor fashion tribute from the June 2010 issue of Vogue Korea.
Bringing a dominant piece (like the striped blazer above) brings structure in the basic white on white outfit underneath. Want to be more bold, instead of using the basic clutch seen in the photo, pick a clutch or accessory with a bold pattern or colour to give that wow factor.

Lace Please

Okay, so lace isn't technically a "new" trend for Spring 2011 but it's taken more of a classic look this season. Like all trends that span over multiple seasons, it has evolved to more to the understated side with quality antique-style fabrics. This season you will see more classic, lady-like lace detailing on shirts, tanks and spring/summer dresses rather than all over lace pieces. Here are some lace do's and don't;

 Left: wear less. Right: wear more.

 This type of lace is bigger, giving you a more romantic and classy look.

Olivia Palermo in a tiered lace dress. With the layers and the nude colour of the dress, gives the lace trend a whole new meaning.

Check in tomorrow and find out what trend we will touch on next for Spring 2011.

White to Wear

Another trend that is all over the ready-to-wear runways this coming Spring 2011 is clean, crisp, white - all over. White is always in style, and is seen in almost every collection in the last decade. This Spring, you will see all white outfits, accessories and spring dresses. Here are some of my favorite full-on white collections for Spring 2011;

BCBG and Alexander Wang.

What more trends are coming Spring 2011? Keep checking in the next week for all trends coming this Spring. We will spotlight one specific trends everyday.

  As Winter is getting to its end , we are starting to think about what we want and what is up and coming in our Spring 2011 trends. What we see in fashion today that is most striking is the creative way the fashion designers come up with " re-birth" of our old trends. This Spring begin to think : 70s Glamor .

A Year In Fashion - Trends

As 2010 is coming to an end, I was poking around on-line to see some of the biggest fashion trends we saw this season, from bedroom-inspired fashions to the classic tailored look. Everything came into full circle this year so take a look at some amazing fashion trends of 2010.

Spring/Summer 2010 was all about fitted, neutrals, classic basics, with a bit of bold patterns; Take a look at some of my personal favorites from Gucci, Prada and Thakoon:

Fall/Winter 2010 was all about velvet, cut-outs, big pants and sexy lace everywhere. Take a look at some favorites from Runways in 2010;

I, personally just wanted to thank everyone for an amazing year at Novellino. In 2010, we launched our Vintage Collection, which has become popular within the Queens community. The amazing success of Princess Street Promenade in July, thousands of people crowded Princess Street for entertainment, food and tons of great deals. This month, we launched our very own Jewelry Collection, months of calls to designers, late nights and a few bottles of red wine. This line is special because Tammy (the owner of Novellino) worked very hard on creating a line of pieces that are bold, out there and sometimes just crazy amazing beautiful.
Here is to 2011, fulled with so many surprises, I cannot wait.
