Trend Forcast - Fall 2011

            Although it feels as if the summer has just started, we are already thinking about our fall wardrobe. With pre-fall items arriving shortly here at Novellino, fall trends are on the rise on every runway in the world! Here are some of our favorites, everything from color, texture and theme !

 Shine, shimmer and sparkle!! Two examples of the must have going out dress. This fall we are seeing a lot of shinny fabrics and sequence especially in evening wear; neutral or in light colors but nothing to dark or vibrant. 

Tuxedo inspired clothing is another thing on the rise this fall season. From bow ties to white tuxedo jackets, this trend is fun and sophisticated that can either be dressed up or down !

One of my favorite trends this fall is solid red. This one in particular dress is  long  with a solid color and a long slit at the very front which is another great trend for fall 2011.

How to Wear a Headscarf

   With the vintage accessories that Novellino carries, we have one that is totally reversible and can be worn any season. What better way to wear a vintage scarf than wearing it as a hair piece in the summer ! Here are the steps to accomplishing this look :

1. Tease your hair at the crown of your head by gently back-combing
2. Leaving some hair loose around your hairline, take a small section from each side and pin at the back to keep some volume in your hair. Doing this twice, twisting the sections together and hiding the pin underneath.
3.  Take your headscarf and tie in place between two sections of your hair. Leave some hair loose underneath.
4. Tuck the top of your ears under the scarf and play with your fringe until you are happy and you’re done!

Top Hair Styles for Prom

It's coming up ladies! Alright, so you have your dress, shoes and all the accessories ready for you prom but now your thinking to yourself, "what am I going to do with my hair?" We dug up some hairstyles from some of our favorite celebs that would be ideal for prom whether you want it up, down, half and half or if you have short hair.

Check out some staff favorite hairstyles for this prom season:

 Wavy and loose curls. A Basic but give you the Hollywood look. Easy to do and maintain for the evening.

 The messy side bun. Very popular style and easy to do. Perfect of you have a one shoulder or strapless gown.

 Short hair. Easy style, little effort but gives you a clean and sleek look for prom. With a little wave on one side gives you the added touch.

 Messy side ponytail. Same idea as the messy bum but giving you great texture and volume.

 Sleep side ponytail. Very clean and easy to do.

 Messy side bun. Leaving a few pieces of hair on the front of your face will give you the illusion of having hair on your face without having it all down.

 Long wavy hair. Love the simplicity of this hairstyle. It's a basic and super easy.

 Short and curly. I am a huge Rhianna fan and love her style and her hair. When she had it short hair she added tight curls to give it more bounce and volume when you have very fine hair.

 30's short hair. This style is very old Hollywood theme. Adding also the bright lips gives you that red carpet ready style you want for prom.

Tight long curly hair. Taylor Swift's curly styles are to die for. Plain and simple.

Stripes A-Hoy!

Another trend that seems to follow us into every Spring/Summer 2011 cycle is stripes. While navy and white stripes are a must for the look (though black and white can also work in 2011), the real key to Summer's take on nautical stripes is that they dominate the outfit. This look is all about drawing attention to the stripes above all else in the outfit (and it totally works). 

 

The center piece of this outfit is all about the striped dress. Pairing it with these casual boots gives it a more everyday, wearable look. Pair it up some some heels or some gladiator flats gives this classic look more of a nightlife feel. 

We have touched on 70's glamour coming back this season. This spring summer is the return of the bell bottom jeans. A style which originated with the sailor pants of the US navy and helping create the military look from past seasons. Presents the perfect opportunity for creating nautical ensembles. A striped top with flares is a combination that brings the 70's look into 2011.

Bringing a dominant piece (like the striped blazer above) brings structure in the basic white on white outfit underneath. Want to be more bold, instead of using the basic clutch seen in the photo, pick a clutch or accessory with a bold pattern or colour to give that wow factor.

Lace Please

Okay, so lace isn't technically a "new" trend for Spring 2011 but it's taken more of a classic look this season. Like all trends that span over multiple seasons, it has evolved to more to the understated side with quality antique-style fabrics. This season you will see more classic, lady-like lace detailing on shirts, tanks and spring/summer dresses rather than all over lace pieces. Here are some lace do's and don't;

 Left: wear less. Right: wear more.

 This type of lace is bigger, giving you a more romantic and classy look.

Olivia Palermo in a tiered lace dress. With the layers and the nude colour of the dress, gives the lace trend a whole new meaning.
